SINGAPORE — On June 13, 2025, Uwing International School’s Student Services Department hosted a special “Uwing Health Day,” inviting the Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) to campus for an engaging and educational seminar on cardiovascular health. The initiative was designed to boost students’ health awareness and encourage the development of lifelong healthy habits.

Educational Insights on Heart Health

During the session, SHF representatives used accessible, student-friendly language to explain complex topics such as heart function, blood pressure, and the causes and risks associated with hypertension. Through vivid animated videos, the experts illustrated how high-fat and high-sugar foods—such as fried chicken, potato chips, soda, and bubble tea—can “clog” blood vessels and place undue strain on the heart.

The portrayal of “junk food monsters” rampaging through blood vessels not only brought laughter to the room but also provided a powerful, memorable lesson on the critical importance of a balanced diet. Tailoring the advice to the local context, the speakers highlighted common dietary habits in Singapore, including the frequent consumption of sugary drinks, a late-night supper culture, and a reliance on food delivery services. They urged students to prioritize fruits and vegetables, reduce intake of deep-fried and sugary foods, and maintain a regular exercise regimen to protect their long-term heart health.

Hands-on Learning

The event included a highly interactive practical session where students, under the guidance of the SHF staff, learned how to use digital blood pressure monitors to measure their own blood pressure. This experiential approach allowed the students to gain practical health skills while deepening their understanding of the subject matter.

Uwing International School remains deeply committed to fostering health consciousness among its student body. The school strives to help students build scientific health perspectives and master essential wellness skills from a young age.
